Squamish Valley Music Festival (SVMF) 2015 - Aug 7 2015

Virgin Mobile Presents Squamish Valley Music Festival Media Backgrounder The Squamish Valley Music Festival (SVMF) is so much more than just an outdoor musical event. It brings together performing and visual artists in one of the most stunning locations in the country, entrancing fans with a palpable energy that reaches far beyond the Festival grounds. It blends the liveliness of a highly technical, industry-leading concert, with the nostalgia and ethereal vibe of a vintage family holiday. It is an experience unlike any other. Launched in 2010 as the brainchild of the crew at brand.LIVE Management Group, Virgin Mobile Presents Squamish Valley Music Festival, Western Canada’s premier music event, returns for its sixth consecutive year with three days and three nights of top-notch music. The Festival features some of the biggest international names in the music industry today, alongside national and emerging regional talent, in an incredible experience highlighting artistry of all genres. Modeled after the great festivals of Europe, the 2010 multi-stage Festival featured performances by Devo, Matthew Good, The Decemberists and Bad Religion, and welcomed over 13,000 patrons. In 2011, the Festival continued to grow with attendance numbers increasing to 18,000 and acts like Weezer, Metric, Girl Talk and Major Lazer topping the bill. In September of that year, brand.LIVE began discussions with Live Nation, the world’s leading live entertainment and e-commerce company, about the future potential of the Festival, which led to a collaboration in 2012. The 2012 SVMF saw attendance over 24,000 and performances from the Tragically Hip, City and Colour, Mother Mother and Chromeo. In 2013, the Festival was rebranded as the Squamish Valley Music Festival as the partnership of these two industry leaders became more established and set the stage for international talent, including Queens of the Stone Age, Vampire Weekend, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Band of Horses and Pretty Lights. The 2013 SVMF welcomed more than 40,000 music fans and generated over $18 million in economic impact. 2014 brought the biggest changes to the Festival, when it was anchored as one of the most significant events in the Canadian music industry. The Festival expanded to some 81 acres, including the massive Centennial Field Complex, allowing it to welcome more than 105,000 guests over the course of the weekend. The new venue brought with it improved camping facilities, enhanced transportation options and more than 70 performances, including an incredible roster headlined by Bruno Mars, Arcade Fire and Eminem. The 2014 SVMF was its first to utilize state of the art RFID technology to provide faster, more convenient onsite transactions for all Festivalgoers. The three and a half day festival generated nearly $32 million in economic activity across British Columbia, making an impact not just in the music industry, but also in communities across the province.
